The Pall-Ex / Fuel Card Services-sponsored Porsche headed to Knockhill in Scotland for the latest Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain battle; with driver David Fairbrother, of Pall-Ex member A.D.D. Express, narrowly missing out on the Pro-Am2 podium.
David and team-mate Ross Wylie took on the challenge of the tight and undulating Fife circuit, with Ross taking the fight to the top 10 in qualifying and gaining two spots in Round 10 to finish ninth overall.
David’s first visit to Knockhill was one that he found challenging, but enjoyable, battling the frontrunners in the Pro-Am2 class. Qualifying fourth in class in tricky conditions, David fought to fifth place during the opening race of the weekend.
Having not been here before, I think that if I’d have had another day, then I could have got a couple of my rivals. I enjoyed it and we got some more good points.”
He commented: “It’s challenging in these cars around this track where you’re flat-out and then suddenly you’re fighting through the bumps and the twisty sections.
“It helps to know the circuit to be competitive and that’s something I’m delighted to have done.”
David was in contention for a podium in the second race of the weekend, aired live on ITV4, narrowly missing out after a race-long chase of Iain Dockerill.
“Having not been here before, I think that if I’d have had another day, then I could have got a couple of my rivals. I enjoyed it and we got some more good points.”
The second race ended much more prematurely for Wylie, after contact with Jamie Orton. The vehicle spun before colliding with the oncoming car of John McCullagh.
On a learning weekend for the rookie squad at one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, Slidesports team boss Mark Jenkins praised his team’s hard work. “It’s Porsche’s opportunity to show what we can do in Scotland, and it’s been an endurance as this is very demanding for cars as powerful as these. I’m proud of all the boys. We’ll go to Silverstone looking to fight back for sure.”
David, Ross and the Slidesports team will next head to the home of British motorsport, Silverstone, supporting the British Touring Car Championship once again at the National circuit over the weekend of 16/17 September.
